Last night at the bookstore we were blessed with another wonderful author event. We were joined by noted historian and Harvard professor John Stauffer, who has written a fascinating and insightful book called “Giants, the Parallel Lives of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln.” Our events have had hugely successful lately, with more than 30 people in attendance nearly every Thursday night. One of our devoted customers commented that “he felt like he was taking a class at Harvard.” He clearly saved the current tuition price by stopping by the bookstore on a chilly spring night! Another listener commented that one hour was barely enough. He could have “listened another two hours!” Stauffer stayed so late that he missed his commuter rail train back into Cambridge – now that’s true devotion to the reading public! Luckily, a couple of our intrepid readers jumped at the opportunity to continue the conversation and happily drove him all the way back to Cambridge. What a night!
