Love, Janis by Laura Joplin
Fantastic story for any Janis Joplin fan. This book follows the tragic life of the 60's icon, as told by her sister. It was the subject of the book that immediately caught my eye, since I am a fan of Janis Joplin myself, but once I started reading I was drawn in by the intriguing events in her life and the culture that she lived in.
How to Breathe Underwater by Julie Orringer
This diverse collection of short stories was my favorite summer read. These coming-of-age tales are individually special, And sometimes disturbing. They are really one of a kind.
The Beautiful City of the Dead by Leander Watts
A young adult fiction story. The premise of the story is music fused with the elements (earth, water, wind, fire). Four elements represented by four people. Together they form a powerful foursome. A captivating story about four teenagers, "ghost metal" and their unusual abilities. Difficult to describe in words, reading this book is the only way to understand it.
Theories of Relativity by Barbara Haworth-Attard
A Young Adult (urban) fiction story inspired by the homeless teens of the city. This somber story illustrates what life is like for homeless teens (drugs, starvation, prostitution, and gangs). I was interested by the seriousness of the topic. I've always been drawn to urban fiction books or books that contain dramatic and extreme situations. I finished it in one day.
Shattering Glass by Gail Giles
A suspenseful Young Adult story that gets your attention from the first page. In a backwards type story Simon glass is turned from geek, to popular, to complete disaster. The intense ending had me on the edge of my seat!
